The Prairie Innovation Enterprise Region is one of 16 provincially established Enterprise Regions. Enterprise Regions are not-for-profit organizations governed by elected groups of business people and community representatives. Their mandate is to build regional economies, foster a culture of enterprise and innovation, and build on competitive advantages. How this is accomplished is unique to the needs, opportunities, and resources of each particular Enterprise Region. Through working with local businesses and communities, the Prairie Innovation Enterprise Region identifies issues affecting the expansion of industries or the development of new industries in the region, and then investigates ways to address these issues. PIER evaluates economic issues based on the scale and complexity of the problem and the resources required to effectively address it. The delivery of core services include: regional and community marketing; business attraction, retention, and expansion; as well as community economic development with a focus on addressing housing and labour shortages.
