A
little bit of background on the Business
Capacity Listing
The BCL originated from the
2010 PIER Strategic Plan, where the need
to maximize local
business involvement in major industrial developments was identified.
The underlying barrier to
obtaining this goal was the lack of a simple structure for tracking and
communicating the
products and services that are available in our region. The idea has
since been redefined as a
publicly accessible, comprehensive listing of businesses in the PIER
region. The Synchronist
System currently used to house PIER's Business Retention and Expansion
data is the perfect
database in which to house this information.
The data necessary for
populating the BCL will be obtained through
telephone contact with
businesses in the region. Over 2000 businesses will be contacted to
confirm basic contact and
product/service information. Upon completion, the BCL will be made
accessible on the PIER
website. It will be searchable by product/service type, community,
certification, and capacity,
and will serve well as a tool, not only for identifying local
businesses that can serve as vendors,
but also for identifying gaps in the types of products and services
offered in the region.
Funding for the BCL became available in the fall of 2011. The expected
completion date of this
project is fall of 2012.
