Through the use of our Business Retention and Expansion initiative, we continue to identify barriers to, and opportunities for economic development.  Labour shortages, affordable housing, and community infrastructure have been identified as the most significant barriers to continued growth of existing businesses in the region. Ongoing investment in potash exploration, expansion, and development has created new economic opportunities for the region.  Existing businesses have the opportunity to diversify their products and services to serve this growing industry.
To address these issues and opportunities, PIER is involved in the following initiatives:
1.Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre; an immigration support service organization
2.Investment Ready Partnership Project (IRPP); an initiative that provides toolkit for businesses to address housing issues specific to their needs
3.Business Capacity Listing; an initiative that provides industrial developers with the information necessary to procure goods and services locally, while providing local entrepreneurs with the information necessary to identify supply gaps and niche markets.
